Chocolate Covered Cookies
These white chocolate covered cookies are an easy, no-bake treat you can dress up for any patriotic holiday. I used white chocolate dipped peanut butter sandwich cookiesโalso known as Nutter Buttersโbecause the peanut butter filling pairs so well with creamy white chocolate. Add red, white, and blue sprinkles for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or Labor Day, or swap the colors to match birthdays, baby showers, school parties, game days, and holiday trays. They are simple, festive, and very versatile!
White Chocolate Covered Patriotic Cookies
If you need a last-minute party dessert that looks cute without taking all afternoon, these are the cookies to make. There is no oven required, the decorating is easy, and kids can help with the sprinkles once the cookies are dipped. The finished cookies look like something from a bakery tray, but they start with store-bought cookies and a few pantry-friendly ingredients.

Why Youโll Love These Cookies
- They are quick, easy, and no-bake.
- You can make them ahead for parties, cookouts, dessert tables, or edible gifts.
- The colors are easy to customize for any theme or holiday.
- The sweet white chocolate coating balances the salty peanut butter cookie center.
- They are easy to package in treat bags, tins, or dessert boxes.
Fun Facts
- Nutter Butter cookies were introduced in 1969 and have been a favorite peanut butter sandwich cookie for decades.
- The peanut shape is part of what makes them so easy to recognize on a dessert tray.
- White chocolate is technically different from milk or dark chocolate because it does not contain cocoa solids, which is why it has that creamy vanilla-like flavor and pale color.
- Chocolate-covered cookies are great for themed parties because the decorations can do all the workโsprinkles, sanding sugar, colored drizzle, or edible stars can completely change the look.
Tips and Tricks for the Best Chocolate Covered Cookies
- Melt low and slow. White chocolate can scorch if it gets too hot. Use a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring often.
- Keep water away. Even a small splash of water can make melted chocolate seize and turn thick or grainy.
- Use parchment paper. Lay dipped cookies on parchment so they release easily once the coating sets.
- Decorate right away. Add sprinkles while the coating is still wet so they stick.
- Thin if needed. If the coating is too thick, stir in a tiny amount of shortening or coconut oil until it dips smoothly.
- Tap off the extra. After dipping, gently tap the cookie against the bowl to remove excess coating and keep the edges neat.
- Let them set completely. Give the cookies time to firm up before stacking or packaging.

Easy Decorating Ideas
For patriotic cookies, dip the full cookie in white chocolate and add red, white, and blue sprinkles. You can also dip only half the cookie for a fun striped look, drizzle red and blue candy melts across the top, or add edible glitter for a little sparkle. For other holidays, try orange and black for Halloween, red and green for Christmas, pastels for Easter, or team colors for tailgates.
If you are serving these at a cookout, place them on a tray in a shaded spot or bring them out closer to dessert time. White chocolate can soften in the summer heat, especially outdoors. For a pretty platter, mix these cookies with strawberries, blueberries, pretzels, marshmallows, and mini cupcakes.
How do you store chocolate covered cookies?
You can store these at room temperature, if you place them in an airtight container.
How long can chocolate covered cookies last?
If stored as mentioned above, these will last up to 2 weeks.
