How do you make Aflredo sauce from scratch?
Add the cream and butter to a sauce pan on medium heat and bring to a simmer. Turn the heat off and whisk in the parmesan cheese. Keep whisking until the parmesan cheese has melted. Add spices, if desired.
Can you use milk instead of heavy cream for Alfredo sauce?*
You can always use milk in lieu of heavy cream in this sauce. Using milk makes it lighter and lower fat.
What can you substitute for heavy cream in Alfredo sauce?
If you want to keep it creamy, use yogurt or cream cheese with either milk or chicken broth.
Some dishes you can use your Alfredo Sauce in…
- Sweet Shrimp and Bacon Alfredo Sauce
- Chicken Alfredo Crescent Bake
- Turkey Alfredo with Angel Hair Pasta

Homemade Alfredo Sauce
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Butter
- 1 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1/2 Cup Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Seasonings of your choice
Instructions
- Melt butter over medium heat in a sauce pan. Make sure not to over cook the butter. Slowly add the whipping cream. Stirring constantly.
- Add seasonings of your choice. I use salt, pepper, and onion powder.
- Turn up the heat and bring the sauce to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens. About 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add Parmesan cheese. Stir until well blended. NOTE: Freshly grated parmesan cheese will melt better.
