French Bread Dogs

Two halves of a pig in a blanket, resting on a whole pig in a blanket. One of the halves has mustard on it and the other has ketchup.

What is the original pigs in a blanket?

The original pigs in a blanket was made with sausage or sausage meat in bread dough. Today we use hot dogs more often than sausage.

How do you keep pigs in a blanket from getting soggy?

Make sure to pat dry the hot dog/sausage before wrapping it with dough.

Can pigs in a blanket be assembled ahead of time?

Absolutely. You can put them together and either keep them in the fridge or freezer. If refrigerating, only keep in for 2 hours before cooking. If freezing, first let them freeze on a baking sheet. Then transfer to a baggie. They will last in the freezer 2-3 months.
